Webb and Digital Identities
I got quite interested in Webb recently. It made me believe NFT is the future of digital identities in metaverse.
So, what is Webb?
Webb is a metaverse game where you can walk around, hang out and play quest games.
This is a screenshot from the Webb game. The avatars are people’s NFTs.
In Webb, people no longer use avatars that are designed by the game itself, instead people use NFTs they bought and own. It is the first metaverse game that achieved this. None of Sandbox, Decentraland, NFT Worlds, etc. achieved this.
Using my own NFT as the digital identity in the game was a magical experience. I felt so much more connected to the character inside the game, because I own the NFT, I own the digital identity.
When we think about the metaverse, what are the most important things? My answer is - connection. Metaverses without connections are soulless games.
Oculus avatars create connections for you by resemblence to yourself. And when you see your friends in this virtual world, they also look similar to who they are in real life! Thus social connections are made.
NFTs achieve connection through ownership, rather than resemblence. Your own the NFTs, you own the digital identities, and you feel connected. I am so excited for the future of NFTs as digital identities.
